It started 23rd of June in the year 1960 in Riga, when the first celebration were held. The prerequisites for this new Song celebration tradition came from even earlier, when children’s performances were an important part of the Main song celebration in the years 1948, 1950 and 1955. As school choirs and dance groups grew in quality and mass, they created their own celebration for school youth.
