Today, on March 31, XII the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration  Steering Committee, evaluating the scenarios offered by the organizer of the celebration – National Centre for Education of the Republic of Latvia – decided to transfer them to summer 2021. The Steering Committee heard Agru Bērziņu, Executive Director of the Celebration , and Arti Velšu, Head of the Celebration Operational Steering Group. The issue of postponing the Celebration to the summer of 2021 was also considered by the Song Celebration Council, agreeing with the decisions of the Steering Committee.

“The issue of public safety, particularly the security of participants, is the most important thing in organizing Celebration . The unpredictable epidemiological development of COVID-19 and the emergency in Latvia and in the world introduce significant restrictions and changes in all areas of society. The Steering Committee unanimously decided to postpone the celebration to next summer, taking into account medical, human and organizational aspects, while respecting the importance of the continuity of the song Celebration tradition. We hope that this news will not upset potential participants, but will allow you to set the mood for the celebration through the new education platform “Your Class”. It will also be an opportunity to dance and sing the repertoire of the Song and Dance Celebration , “emphasizes the Minister of Education and Science Ilga Šuplinska.

“The team of organizers has already started work to clarify the organizational issues related to the celebration. The Song and Dance Celebration is a huge mechanism with many essential components – artistic programs and their topicality after a year, the organization of shows and regulations in the context of the celebration, redistribution of state grants, availability of venues, etc. We will inform everyone involved in the process of the details by the end of the school year. The Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration is the largest Latvian children’s and youth culture and art celebration , which confirms that the ancient traditions of Latvian singing, dancing and making music are continued and honored.
